TRULY MAN*S BEST FRIEND
Dogs: Truly Man's Best Friend
Dogs are known as man’s best friend throughout the world. They come in hundreds of different types, breeds and sizes. Some are big, some are small, some are hairy, some are bald, some have big ears, some have small ears; no matter what combination you choose your dog is a pet for life and your companion.
Pets dogs are used in our lives in a variety of ways, where one man will buy a dog to cuddle him at night another will buy a dog to guard his home. A farmer will buy a dog to herd his sheep where as an A list celebrity will buy a dog to adorn their handbags and arms like an accessory. Every dog has a different purpose depending on their owner, but it always starts the same for us all the puppy stage.
There is not a puppy alive than cannot melt the hardest of us all. Their little cute bodies and tiny paws make even a grown man cry “AWWWW” at the sight of them and have all children crying at their parents to buy them one. But the truth is a puppy should never be taken away from it’s mother between the ages of eight to ten weeks as their behavioural skills are being developed at this time and to take them away early would be to leave them socially lacking. Once they have left their mothers they are taken to their new homes where they are fussed over and trained by their new family.
At approximately six weeks of age they should have receive their first vaccination and at twelve weeks you should take them for their second vaccine, with their third and final one being given at sixteen weeks. This is then repeated again when they are one. De- worming and fleeing is also recommended and should be given to your dog at three monthly intervals when bought from your vet and monthly intervals when bought from your local store.
Food is especially important at this stage of their development and should be kept on puppy food until they reach eighteen months old. Biscuits, a mixer and/or wet puppy food, are appropriate when it is being used in a balanced diet where the puppy is being fed three times a day.
As your puppy grows, which it will do at an alarming rate you will be able to begin to take him/her out for walks. This should be done at least six times a day whilst your puppy is learning to be house trained. House training your dog can be sometimes a long and slow process depending on the dog’s intelligence and breed. Often a reward system is the easiest system to use when teaching your dog something new and house training is one of them. Eventually all dogs will catch on and will often tell you when they need to go outside to go to the toilet.
Now that you understand all of the basics, you and your new dog can grown together with a happy relationship that will last a lifetime and more.
